Neptune

Neptune "The Lonely Planet"

Briefing:  Neptune is the last planet that we have to explore in our solar system.  Neptune is the eighth and farthest planet from the Sun in the Solar System and it is the fourth-largest planet by diameter and the third-largest by mass. Neptune is seventeen times the mass of the planet Earth, and is somewhat more massive than its near-twin Uranus.

Mission:  On this mission, you will spend time learning about the different features of the Planet Neptune by creating a one page comic about the different aspects of our outermost planet.  The page you will be creating will have at least six different panels, each depicting a different aspect of the planet Neptune.

Example:

Tools:  You will be using Microsoft Word and the Comic Life software to create your comic, as well as using the Internet to gather images and information about the planet Neptune.

Procedure:

Step 1 - You will need to use the Internet to research the different features and aspects of the planet Neptune.  To help you get some ideas of different features of this planet, here is a list of some features of Neptune that you can use:
  • Atmosphere
  • Size
  • Orbit
  • Moons
  • Composition
  • Temperatures
  • Distance from sun
  • Rotation
  • Surface
  • Discovered by
  • Explorations by NASA

Step 2 – Once you have gathered a few short facts about Neptune, you can then use Google’s Images Search to find pictures specific to the pictures that you will need for this comic.  Here is an example of typing in the specific words “Neptune’s mantle” into Google’s Images search engine.  Click here for the Example: Neptune’s Mantle

Step 3 – Once you have an image you will want to use, you can then simply copy and paste the image from the picture file that you have found on Google’s Images Gallery into the Comic Life software.  After you have pasted the image into the panel page of your choice, you will then add a short description or explanation of the picture that you have pasted.
