Introduction to the Planets

Introduction

In your Science textbooks (Observing God’s World 4.6) you will be studying about our solar system and the different planets within it.  Over the next ten classes, we will be reinforcing your understanding of the planets by studying each one in depth.

Each day of study, we not only will be doing different assignments, but we will also be assembling an entire book of planet studies so that you will be able to print them as well as publish them online.

Here is a breakdown of the studies:

The Solar System – On this day we will review all of the planets in the solar system and create a cover page for your book on planets.  We will be using Paint Shop Pro to create a cover and we will also use Microsoft Word to make a table of contents.

Mercury – “All About Mercury” We will be using Microsoft Word, Paint Shop Pro and Excel to create a one page report on this planet.

Venus – “Postcards from Venus” In this section we will create a postcard from Venus using the Comic Life program and an image that you will find on the Internet on this incredible planet.  You will be writing a postcard home on how your visit was to Venus.

Earth – “Rare Planet” Using the Microsoft Word program we will make tables of all of many of the different things that makes life so abundant on this planet.

Mars – “The Red Planet” You will use the Internet and the Excel program to research and create a list of websites that are about this interesting planet.

Jupiter – “Home of the Whopper Planet” You will perform a Web Quest on the Internet to answer questions about our solar systems giant planet.

Saturn – “Rings Around the Planet” In this lesson, you will create a five slide presentation on the planet Saturn and its rings.

Uranus – "Planet on its Side" Using the Microsoft Word  program, you will create a crossword puzzle on the planet Uranus using facts from NASA's website to create clues and answers.

Neptune – "The Lonely Planet" You will create a comic about the features of the planet Neptune using the Comic Life program and Microsoft Word.

Create Your Own Planet -  "You Will Create Me" In this final lesson, you will pick one program of your choice and create a planet of your own, detailing and explaining the different features and aspects of your planet.
