Mercury

"All About Mercury"

Briefing – As you already may know, Mercury is the innermost planet in our Solar System.  Mercury is also the smallest, and its orbit is the most circular of the eight planets. It also orbits the Sun once in about 88 Earth days, completing three rotations about its axis for every two orbits. The planet is named after the Roman god Mercury, the messenger to the gods.

Mission – Our first planet to explore is Mercury, and you will be creating a detailed report with about this planet as well as obtaining pictures from the Internet to add to your document.

Tools You Will Use:

Microsoft Word – You will be using this word processing software to write your report on.  You will be writing a 400 word report using the following criteria:

Header – You will create a title using the Impact font (22 point) and you will justify it to the center.

Margins – You will use 1 inch margins on the right and left of your report.

Tabs – You will set your tabs at 1” oriented left.

Here is the format of your report:

  • Introduction – You will begin your report detailing and explaining the basics of the planet Mercury.  This section is very similar as the briefing above except you will write the introduction in your own words.

  • Body – In this section of your report you may write about any aspect of the planet you find interesting.  For example, you can write about the geology of the planet or its orbit, magnetic field or even the history of people observing Mercury.  You can mix and match these aspects anyway that you want.

  • Conclusion – In the final section of your report, you will write you final thoughts about the planet Mercury.  You can also look up recent news on Mercury and use some of that information as part of your conclusion.   Remember, fellow space explorer, you must write this report in your own words.  (No “Copying and Pasting” from web sites!)

The Internet / Google Images
  • Pictures – You will find and use at least three pictures from the Internet and place them into your document.  The size of the image should not exceed 250 pixels by 250 pixels.
